Please announce to all of your UNDERGRADUATE STUDENTS that it is Scholarship Application time for 2014-2015.
The application deadline is 5:00 PM February 28th (the window is the weekend of March 1 & 2). For 2014-2015, the SOA Scholarship Committee has allocated $35,000 in Helen DeVitt Jones Talent Based Scholarship funds to be awarded to continuing undergraduate Art Majors ($27,000) and incoming freshmen Art Majors ($8,000).
It is Scholarship Committee’s goal to complete the undergraduate scholarship process before Spring Break. This year we have set the ambitious goal of announcing all the undergrad scholarship awardees at an All SOA (Undergraduate) Awards Reception on Saturday, March 29th, to coincide with the Juried Undergraduate Art Show reception. This will give us the opportunity to bring in scholarship donors and recognize their gifts at the same time that School of Art’s top students are being recognized.
If it is not already online, all of this information for 2014-2015 will be online this week at www.art.ttu.edu/scholarships. Look closely to make sure that last year’s information (and application forms) have been replaced by 2014-2015 forms. I have attached the 2014-2015 application forms as PDFs for you to print out and hand to your top students.
CONTINUING ART MAJORS (sophomore, junior, or senior in Fall 2014) may apply for merit based and need based scholarships for 2014-2015. Application deadline is February 28, 2014.
Real and Muff Musgrave – Medici Circle Art Scholarship: Real & Muff Musgrave established the endowment for this scholarship in 2012 to provide a scholarship which “shall be awarded on a merit/needs basis to a student, in good academic standing (with at least a 3.0 GPA in a 4.0 system in art curriculum), who has completed two years in undergraduate work (any area) in the School of Art and has demonstrated high proficiency in drawing, as judged by the SOA Scholarship Committee. The award shall be renewable for one year, so long as the student has maintained an overall academic standing of 3.0 GPA or higher in a 4.0 system for the preceding year. It is the intent of the principal benefactors that special consideration and encouragement be given to a third year art student [beginning 3rd year of studies] with demonstrated drawing ability, who is pursuing a degree with the goal to derive the bulk of their income from the creation of their art. And that student shall have this support available for their final two years of undergraduate study.” Juniors (or seniors who anticipate taking two years before graduating) may apply. Application deadline: February 28, 2014.
All School of Art Undergraduate Excellence Award: This competitive, merit-based scholarship award of $2,000 is to be made for the first time in 2014-2015. It recognizes a School of Art student’s accomplishments beyond his or her specific area of specialization. It seeks to encourage students’ efforts to excel in all the fields of study they undertake while at the School of Art. It is awarded to a student whose academic record and portfolio of work attests to and demonstrates exceptional work ethic and higher than common expectations, which are invaluable assets in professional life and for those thinking of pursuing graduate studies. Application deadline: February 28,2014.
For those of you are working on recruiting NEW INCOMING FRESHMEN ART STUDENTS, you will also find relevant information on this webpage:www.art.ttu.edu/scholarships.
INCOMING FRESHMEN should apply for scholarships using the Application Form at this link: Download the application form here. Application deadline is April 15, 2014.
INCOMING FRESHMEN may also apply for the financial need based H.Y. Price Scholarship by April 15, 2014.
One H.Y. Price Scholarship is available through the College of Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA) to an incoming student in 2014-2015. This scholarship is renewable via re-application in three consecutive years of academic study in the School of Art. These applications are reviewed in School of Art (SOA) and one "nomination" goes up from the SOA Director to CVPA. Nominations of students for the HY Price Scholarship is based on financial need, character and desire for education are primary criteria. For consideration, applicants must also have completed a Free Application for Financial Student Aid (FAFSA) online application at www.fafsa.ed.org .
