Visual Studies Lesson Plan
Names: Ms. Reyna Saenz and Kyle Garcia
Title of lesson: Appreciating yourself
National standards: Students uses different mediums and techniques for project. They get to interact with one another
Texas Essential Knowledge Skills (TEKS): 117.1, 117.5, 117.8, 117.11, 117.14, 117.17
Objectives:
1. Students will research what is it that they appreciate about themselves.
2. Students will express their thoughts about themselves through sketches and collage all over the paper. They get to experiment with project using texture. Each student will also present the project the rest of the class and explain the objects or gestures in their work of art.
Introduction: Explain what Identity is and how can you use it with everyday life.
Vocabulary: Identity and Portraits
Social/ Historic Context for lessons: The students will find out that their is something unique and special about each child in many ways. They can describe culture, their physical aspects or describe their everyday life about themselves. They have to describe what they appreciate and why they appreciate that part of their life.

Contemporary Artists Used: C.S Lawrence- she expresses her memories through her work.
Books: Just like me

Materials Used: they will use scissors, construction paper, magazines, markers, crayons, glue and even watercolor paints. They also have the option to bring pictures from home or pieces of objects with a parents consent that they are allowed to bring the items to school.
Technology Used: Student do not need a computer, but if they want to print out pictures they may use it
Timeline for lesson: Present the project the first day of week. The rest of the week they have time to work on it during their periods. They can take it home to work on it if project lags and the classes will present their projects the second day of the following week (Tuesday).
Activity/Procedure:
1. The presentation on the project will be shown on the smart board, different examples will be provided. The vocabulary words will be integrated in the presentation. I will have a note typed out for parents on the project to give them an idea on what student is working on.
2. Students will be presented with a 20x18 in paper. I will give them the option of different colors and they will choose the magazines that will help emphasize emphasize their character. They will be presented with a basket of supplies; such as scissors, glue, colored pencils. The paints and paint brushes will be provided as well with caution. Students may take home assignment if they try to keep it under good condition.
3.The date its due, students will 3-5 min describing their work and the class will ask questions about the students work
4. At the end of the project the students are required to look at one another's work and say something about that piece of work. Students will be graded on participation on asking questions or adding comments
Future Considerations/Notes: Use a timer, come up with signals to show how much time is left.
