"Thats not how life is."
I am not very familiar with film and documentaries, but Sadie Bennings works seems very raw and honest. The thing thats hard about reading about film makers is that you can never give a full opinion about their work unless you are watching it on a tv, and not seeing pictures of clips in a book. I think that growing up as a gay girl with a family friend thats a transvestite would be interesting in a yankee working class town like Milwaukee. Her videos would defiantly be something that I would want to look into since she expresses honesty, living the way that you are, and knowing what you like.
"Shooting back."
It sounds like Jim Hubbard was taking a brave risk shooting homeless people on the street instead of things pertaining to the White house. I like how Hubbard and Brookman gave cameras to the children to help capture the reality of their block, and asked them to stay within the block. This is kind of like the "Where I am From assignment." It was nice for these artist/volunteers to take their time and money and help teach underprivileged children to shoot photos and give them additional reading/writing lessons and 3-15 weeks of shelter.
